When you access an app or wake your phone, the headset wakes with it. You will hear the tiniest bit of static which indicates it's ready to go.Get this headset! You won't regret it... Thank you technology for those who have created this style of headset! I don't have to hurt my hears or wear the huge padded headset all the time now. These open ear headphones are great. I use them at the auto shop I work at primarily because I can hear my coworkers and certain noises I need to pay attention to. On max volume on some music they do have slight distortion but it's not very common to hear it.
